
Christmas Eve Canyon Road Walk
WHEN: 12/24 Christmas Eve. 5.15pm - 8.30pm WHERE: Historic Canyon Road (FREE) A long-standing Santa Fe tradition is to walk the historic Canyon Road on Christmas Eve. Farolitos, Christmas Carols, Cider, and goodies line the street. Starting at twilight and going until everyone has left. Join in this wonderful spectacle with your friends and family. Happy Holidays!
Canyon Road will be closed to drive traffic from 3pm - 10pm. Park as close as you can. There is free parking at the state parking lot along Paseo de Peralta, but it fills up fast. (click map button) So get there early, often folks arrive as early as 4.30pm just before dark.
Take a pleasant stroll along farolito-lined Canyon Road, sing Carols and then stop off at The Teahouse, or El Farol for a delicious dinner (reserve your restaurant seating well in advance! Look in Restaurants category for details.) click here to go to the Restaurants category.
Canyon Road and some surrounding streets will be accessible until 5:30 p.m. at which time barricades are placed and police officers will allow limited access to residents and guests only until 6 p.m. After this time there will be absolutely no vehicles permitted, except emergency vehicles. No passes will be issued to residents—they are urged to have party guests arrive before 6 p.m. Hundreds of pedestrians view the beautiful farolitos, and every precaution is taken to ensure everyone’s safety.
The streets that are closed are: Paseo de Peralta at Halona; Paseo de Peralta at E. Alameda; Paseo de Peralta at Old Santa Fe Trail; Canyon Road; Acequia Madre at Garcia; Acequia Madre at Camino del Monte Sol ; Canyon Road at Palace Avenue and Delgado at Alameda. The streets will re-open around 10 p.m. depending upon how large a crowd remains after the walk officially ends at 9 p.m.
